U.S. demands Israel crack down on illegal Iranian pistachio imports
Are pistachios about to be banned in Israel? Haaretz explains something we did not know yet about the US, Iran and Israel...
C'mon, everybody knows pistachios like matkot, hummus and falafel are part of Israeli dna.
In Europe you mostly find Turkish pistachios, thin and roasted, and sometime on the package its marked they are distributed from Turkish companies but produced in Iran, historically the best place of origin for pistachios.
I always found them too smally and thick, like a cozza or a vongola not open and always preferred the Israeli pistachios, bigger in diamater, with the nut almost coming out from the very salted skins.
Every trip back from Israel to Europe, in the past, a kilo of salted roasted pistachios, watermelon and sunflower seeds would fly with me. Since my childhood few things can relax me more than eating pistachios in front of the tv on a lazy rainy sunday afternoon.
While i dont spend anymore sundays afternoon waytching tv in a small village of 3.000 souls in Brianza, i still eat many pistachios.
Shall i look at them from now on as a symbol of peace or as a weapon of mass destruction?
